Teaching Experience...
I have been teaching percussion in the San Antonio area for 20+ years. In addition to teaching lessons, I regularly consult with indoor/outdoor percussion programs in Northside ISD, Harlandale ISD, South San ISD, Boerne ISD, and Comal ISD. In 2012, I received a bachelor's degree in music education from the University of Texas-San Antonio (UTSA). From 2012 to 2016, I worked with the UTSA marching percussion programs, both the marching band and the indoor percussion ensemble, "Rhythm of San Antonio."

Lesson Approach
My teaching expertise is primarily in concert (band/orchestra) and marching percussion. Students need to be as well-rounded in percussion as they can be. EXAMPLE:  The wrist rotation developed for successful 4-mallet playing also applies to the wrist rotation for the Traditional grip of the left hand used for marching snare drum.

Lessons focus heavily on fundamental technique and knowledge of snare drum and mallets (2 and 4).  Studies of other areas of percussion are determined on an individual basis.

Playing Experience...
I have been playing percussion for 30+ years, beginning in grade 5. In high school, I performed in the Northside ISD Percussion Ensemble, where I performed with artist Lalo Davila. I performed for three years as a member of the World Class Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps (1999, Gold Medalist 1998, 2000). At UTSA, I studied percussion with Sherry Rubins and Dr. Graeme Francis. At UTSA, I performed in the marching, orchestral, concert, and percussion ensembles. Currently, I am a performing member of the San Antonio Wind Symphony.

I endorse Vic Firth sticks and mallets and am a member of the Percussive Arts Society.
